One Colour

We put SO much thought into what we wear. What’s it made of? Does this color match my coloring? How do I accessorize this? Is this pattern in this season? Do these go together ok? Is it really ok now to wear white after Labor Day? Is the shape of this ok for my ridiculously large breasts? {Just me?}

After all that thought, thinking about where the product may have come from and who touched it along the way is an exercise in exhaustion. Once it’s passed all our other checks, do we really care to know all these details we couldn’t even be that sure about?

The good news is that there are organizations out there working to increase accountability in the fashion industry and make it more apparent who the true do-gooder fashion labels are. They let you know who you can trust to make a product that’s history is just as fabulous as its appearance.

Last week I attended Ethical Fashion Forum‘s SOURCE Brand Preview 2013. This event showcased over 160 ethical and sustainable brands and designers, and took place entirely online {yet you still had the ability to “raise your hand” to ask a question, which just made me feel all futuristic…and concerned the entire time that I was unknowingly “raising my hand”}.

Below are my favorite picks from womenswear casual and basics. Go to EFF’s website to watch the rest of the preview and scope out some favorite sustainable brands and designers of your own.
